“BE THE SCULPTOR OF YOUR DREAMS”

Laura Jovien

About the artist:

Originally from Houston, Texas, I am a young and ambitious individual. I’m very passionate about building a sculpture career. I am currently studying for my BFA in Studio Art, with a focus on 3D & Extended Media. Art has been a part of my life since I picked up a paintbrush. Mixed media is one of my favorite mediums for creating new and original pieces. I’m determined to find a field where I can express my creativity and utilize my sculpting skills. My dream is to create sculptures that address global preservation. A particular inspiration for me is Jason deClaires Taylor's functional art, which inspires me to explore how art can be brought into the environment of the ocean.

Make it stand out.

  • Internship

Summer, the season of endless possibilities and new adventures, led me to embark on a captivating journey through different art internships. As an aspiring artist, I yearned to immerse myself in the creative world, seeking inspiration and guidance from seasoned professionals. Over the course of this summer, I had the opportunity to work side by side with various artists, each with their unique style and approach. Let me take you through my extraordinary experience.

  • Sculptures

I have been sculpting since 2019, and it quickly became my favorite type of art. There’s something satisfying about using mixed media to create 3D versions of my ideas. I love getting my hands dirty in the process. Sculpting feels like a natural fit for me, and I’m excited to continue on this path. Sculpture for me begins with an idea, and bringing that idea to life brings me so much joy.

  • Paintings

Since I was a young girl, my passion for painting has only grown stronger. As my first form of art, my skills have greatly improved over the years. Experimenting with new styles and techniques is one of my favorite things to do with a paintbrush, and I'm always pushing myself to create something unique. My artistic journey isn't complete without painting, and I'm excited to find out where it will take me.

  • Digital Art & Collage

Digital art has revolutionized how we produce and experience art. It’s now possible to create stunning works of art on a computer screen. As an artist, I’ve embraced this evolving medium and taken several courses to hone my Adobe skills. Over the past few years, I’ve created several digital drawings that I’m proud of. It’s incredible to see how technology has opened up new possibilities for artists, and I’m excited to continue exploring this field.

  • Drawings and Sketches

Sketching has been a part of my creative process since high school, and it’s always been the starting point for any project. There’s something about putting my ideas down on paper that helps me flesh them out and build upon them later. Whether I’m brainstorming ideas for my next sculpture or working on digital art pieces, sketching is always the first step. I’m grateful for this skill and how it helps me bring my ideas to life in a more concrete way.
